Who does the requirement apply to?

According to the UK regulations (Sea Fisheries REM Regulations 2024), the REM requirement applies to:

  • Pelagic vessels of 12 meters or more
  • With RSW, CSW or cold storage
  • Fishing for pelagic species (herring, mackerel, sprat, etc.)
  • In Scottish waters, regardless of national registration

All such vessels must have an approved REM system in operation by March 7, 2026. The requirement applies to documentation of catch, gear and fishing activity - through cameras, sensors and GPS.
